CAGAYAN Valley started out strong and never let up, downing Boracay Rum, 101-83, on Tuesday in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the JCSGO gym in Quezon City.

The Rising Suns went up, 27-9, in the early goings and went on to capture their fifth win in nine outings.

Cagayan Valley remained in contention for a quarterfinal spot, with several teams knotted in the middle of the pack with two games remaining in the eliminations.

As of posting time, Cagayan Valley shared joint fifth place with Boracay Rum, Cebuana Lhuilller, and Café France in the team standings.

“Lahat na ng games, all out na kami,” said Cagayan Valley assistant coach Toto Dojillo, who spoke to reporters in lieu of head coach Alvin Pua. “Maganda ’yung chance namin. Every game counts. Expect na maganda ang lalaruin ng mga players.”

The third and fourth placers at the end of the eliminations will gain a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals against the sixth and fifth ranked squads, respectively.

Adrian Celada finished with 25 points including an astounding 5-of-6 clip from beyond-the-arc. Ping Exciminiano tallied 22 points for the Rising Suns.

Jeff Viernes had 22 points for Boracay Rum but it was not enough as the Waves failed in their bid to join Fruitas (6-3) at third spot.
