Rising Suns rain triples on Superchargers

    Jan 10, 2013

CAGAYAN Valley buried timely three-point baskets in the fourth as the Rising Suns forced Big Chill to its lowest output this conference for a 77-59 win in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup on Thursday at the Arellano gym.

Eloy Poligrates and Adrian Celada combined for four triples to help the Rising Suns gain a share of third place with the Superchargers with a 5-3 win-loss slate.

Cagayan Valley and Big Chill are just a half-game behind idle Blackwater Sports, which has a 5-2 record. NLEX sits on top of the standings with a 9-1 card.

The Rising Suns converted 11 triples but head coach Alvin Pua noted that the team’s defense sustained their advantage.

“We got a good lead early because we played good defense,” Pua said. “I kept telling the guys that if we play good defense we will be tough to beat.”

The Superchargers dropped to their second loss in three outings.

Poligrates had a game-high 19 points while Celada chipped in 15 for the Rising Suns.

The Rising Suns entered the fourth quarter with a precarious 50-47 lead but Celada quickly converted a triple for some breathing room. Poligrates strung up seven points before Celada hit back-to-back triples for a 69-53 lead.

Rodney Brondial led the Superchargers with 14 points while Arvie Bringas had 10 before being ejected with his second technical foul. The call was made after Arvie’s second motion against his brother Mark, who plays for Cagayan Valley.

Terrence Romeo and Alex Nuyles, returning from a shoulder injury, were limited to seven and six points respectively.
