CAFÉ France coach Egay Macaraya believes Bakers star Paul Zamar, who has not set foot on the PBA since being drafted by Barangay Ginebra in the fourth round in 2013, has done enough to earn a call-up in the pro league thanks to his impressive stint in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup.

Zamar has been a welcome addition to the Bakers this conference, after playing for the squad’s sister team Euro-Med in the PCBL months ago.

The son of San Miguel assistant coach Boycie Zamar has given the core of the Centro Escolar University team a steady and proven scorer, and has helped lead the team to an unbeaten record through four games.

Last Thursday, Zamar even put on a scoring clinic, finishing with 25 points on 4-of-6 shooting from three-point range to lead Café France’s comeback from 24 points down in handing Caida Tiles its first loss, 90-87.

“Right now, he is showing na kaya talaga niya maglaro sa next level,” said Macaraya of his veteran player.

Macaraya said he has been challenging Zamar especially on defense, and the former UE standout has been responding well to the coach’s call.

“Si Paul naman as I’ve known him, he is a very good scorer. The only thing na concern ko sa kanya is how he plays defense kaya I challenge him na 'this is your time.' He has proved to everybody na he can go to the next level,” said Macaraya.
