BREADSTORY-LYCEUM squandered a 15-point lead but recovered to defeat Wangs Basketball in overtime, 97-94, on Thursday to keep its flickering playoff hopes alive in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at the JCSGO gym in Quezon City.
The Pirates improved their win-loss record to 3-5, moving to seventh place in the team standings. Only the top six teams advance to the playoffs.
Breadstory had a 43-28 lead but went cold and allowed Wangs to rally.
Wangs’ Paolo Pontejos scored on a lay-up to send the game into overtime, 83-83.
Wilson Baltazar scored 10 from the free throw line in overtime to help the Pirates take win. Baltazar broke a 91-91 tie with two free throws with 37.8 seconds in the extra period.
“Actually nung lumamang kami, medyo nag-relax sa defense. Bumaba yung level ng defense namin. After that, naka-recover naman kami,” said Breadstory coach Raymund Tiongco.
“Kahit papaano, sana umabot kami sa top six. We are taking it one game at a time. Sana mag-pickup pa ’yung game namin. Siyempre, aasa rin kami sa ibang teams. Kung hindi kami aabot, maganda ’yung finish namin,” Tiongco added.
Jackson Corpuz and Jiovanni Jalalon had 18 points each for the Pirates.
