CIGNAL has yet to win a game against Marinerong Pilipino.
That's why Cignal coach Boyet Fernandez is a little worried ahead of their PBA D-League Foundation Cup semifinals encounter begining on Thursday.
The best-of-three series unfolds at 5 p.m. at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig, with Fernandez expecting no less than a dogfight against the veteran-laden team that is riding the crest of a seven-game winning streak.
"We lost to Marinero twice already, in our practice game as well as in our game in the eliminations, so they are in the advantage, and we're the underdog right now," said Fernandez.
The multi-titled mentor is hoping to get a different result this time around. The Hawkeyes need just two wins to earn a finals seat and inch closer to a season-sweep.
Then again, it won't be given to the Aspirants' Cup champions on a silver platter, especially now with Marinerong Pilipino being reinforced by Fil-Am Robbie Herndon.
"If you look at it, they have a totally different line-up from when we faced them," he said of the Skippers, who also tapped Renzo Subido and Jon Gabriel.
So the Hawkeyes have added other weapons as well in Jonathan Uyloan and Jeckster Apinan to their arsenal in time for the series pitting two well-coached teams.
"We'll find a way to match-up with them. We're excited right now, we're excited that we made it to the semis right away but we'll try to find ways to win against Marinero" said the concurrent San Beda mentor.
"It will be a tough one considering we're facing a very good coach in Coach Koy (Banal), a very good consultant like Coach Joel (Banal). We hope to give them a good game."
