REIGNING Foundation Cup champion Blackwater Sports has a totally extreme way of preparing its players for the coming new season of the PBA D-League.

Amidst the threat of aftershocks following the strong earthquake that hit the Visayas and Mindanao region on Tuesday, the team owned by Dioceldo Sy still pushed through with its scheduled team building and series of tune-up matches in Cebu on Wednesday morning.

“Matagal na kasi itong naka-ready. Kaya hindi na kami umurong,” said Blackwater coach Leo Isaac.

As a welcome treat at the Queen City of the South, the players were greeted by several aftershocks once they settled in their respective rooms, most of them at the 21st floor of the Crown Regency Hotel - one of the tallest buildings in Cebu.

The worst among the series of aftershocks were measured at a 4.2 magnitude.

“Matutulog ako, kasi pagod sa byahe. Biglang nag-dribble `yung kama ko. Nagbihis ako agad,” said Rudy Yu, one of the top-ranking officials of the team.

“Most of the players really screamed and ran outside their rooms. It was really nerve-wracking,’ said assistant team manager Mike Lim.

As of post time, approximately 15 more aftershocks were felt by the whole Elite team since arriving in Cebu.

“Grabe, nakakatakot. Pero sanayan na lang. Ma-i-idlip ka tapos mamaya para kang dinuduyan,” bared cat-quick guard Mikee Reyes.

As part of their team building, Sy had wanted the Elite to try and experience the different extreme adventure being offered at the top of Crown Regency like the Edge Coaster, Zipline, and the Skywalk.

    All of the players declined.

“They said they had enough of the thrill and the chills with the aftershocks every now and then,” said Sy.

Blackwater is slated to play University of San Carlos on Wednesday afternoon, before it takes on M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala the next day.

The tune-up games are part of Blackwater’s preparation as it bids for a second straight crown in the Aspirants Cup beginning on October 24.

“Sabi ko naman sa mga boys ko, walang duwag sa Blackwater. Dito ko makikita ang tapang nila,” said Isaac.

“May iba gusto sa parking lot sa baba matulog. Sabi ko hindi. Sa taas tayo lahat,” he firmly added.
