BLACKWATER Sports overcame newcomer Wangs Basketball, 93-80, on Thursday for its second win in as many outings in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at The Arena in San Juan.
Gio Ciriacruz had 17 points and Jericho Cruz added 15 as the Elite played without PBA draftees Justin Chua and Robby Celiz.
The Elite, who also got 14 and 13 points from Allan Mangahas and Kevin Ferrer respectively, also played well-enough to help Blackwater overcome a lackluster game.
“Magulo pa,” said Blackwater Sports coach Leo Isaac. “With the arrival of new players, hindi pa kami ganoon ka-fluid in terms of chemistry on offense and defense.”
“It will take some games para malaman ’yung individual tendencies ng bawat isa,” Isaac said.
The Couriers hanged tight against the Elite in the game, closing to within four points several times.
Blackwater, last conference’s champion, came up with an 8-0 run midway in the fourth to take a commanding 86-70 lead.
Carlo Gomez had 25 points for Wangs, which is winless in two outings.
