BLACKWATER Sports delivered when it mattered to repulse a game Hogs Breath Café, 85-75, and clinch the first outright semifinal berth in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the JCSGO Gym in Cubao on Monday.
Trailing throughout, the Elite leaned on a crippling fourth-quarter windup to turn the game around, secure the top spot with their eighth win in 11 games, and snap a two-game skid.
“Hanggang ngayon, dala-dala yung stigma nung dalawang dikit na talo,” said Elite coach Leo Isaac, whose wards prevailed despite shooting just 32.1 percent from the field.
“Kailangan malagpasan mo yun eh, kundi hihilahin ka pababa nun.”
“Pwede kong gamitin ang panalong ito to convince them that they can play better,” the veteran mentor added.
Kevin Ferrer and Allan Mangahas fired 17 points apiece, but it was the latter who spearheaded the Elite’s comeback by scoring eight in the final frame.
The Razorbacks, who led by as many as 11 points at one point, failed to complete what could’ve been an upset as they dropped to 1-9.
Second-running NLEX, with a 7-2 win-loss mark, and Fruitas, which beat Cafe France 73-69 earlier on Monday, are disputing the second outright semifinal berth.
