JUMBO Plastic Linoleum leaned on its big men in the final quarter to beat hard-fighting Derulo Accelero, 73-61, on Tuesday in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at the Blue Eagle Gym.
Jan Colina and Marion Magat scored in the Giants’ 9-2 run to start the fourth period to hold off the Oilers and score their seventh win in nine outings.
The Giants still had to sweat it out against the Oilers, who slipped to their ninth loss in 10 outings.
“Na-rattle kami sa changing defense from man to zone. Prepared kami pero tingin ko masyadong overconfident din kami,” said Jumbo Plastic coach Stevenson Tiu, who will have a true test on Thursday against Blackwater Sports.
“Akala nung mga players, parang walkthrough lang. They overdid it. Nawala ’yung teamwork. Buti naman at naka-recover,” Tiu said.
Colina had 19 points, five rebounds, and three assists, while fellow big man Jason Ballesteros added 10 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks. Magat had nine points.
Leo Roncal had 14 points while Jackson Corpuz had 10 points, 16 rebounds, and four blocks for the Oilers.
