REIL Cervantes led the way as Big Chill further solidified its bid for one of the two outright semifinal seats with an 82-71 victory over Zambales M-Builders on Monday in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at the Trinity University of Asia gym.
Cervantes came up with 16 points, Rodney Brondial scored 10 and pulled down 13 rebounds, while Juneric Baloria had 11 points, as the Superchargers improved their win-loss record to 9-1 for first place in the team standings with three games remaining in their elimination round schedule.
“I can’t deny that we are looking at that,” said Big Chill coach Robert Sison, referring to the team eyeing the semifinal slot at this point of the conference.
“Pero hindi kami puwedeng magkumpiyansa. Ang target namin is before Christmas, manalo pa rin kami para masaya naman ang Pasko namin,” said Sison, who will have Wangs Basketball as their next opponent on Thursday before the Christmas break.
The Superchargers opened the fourth quarter with a 7-0 run end never let up, posting a 68-56 lead early in the fourth.
Zambales M-Builders suffered its seventh loss in nine games.
