BIG Chill staged a ‘partial walkout’ late in the second quarter of its PBA D-League Foundation Cup match against Blackwater Sports on Monday at the JCSGO gym in Quezon City.
The incident - a first in the short history of the developmental league - occurred with two minutes, and 50 seconds left in the first half and Blackwater leading by a wide margin, 46-25.
Witnesses said Big Chill coach Robert Sison apparently got fed up with the officiating of the game after a questionable foul was called on Supercharger Rodney Brondial.
This prompted the entire team to retreat to the dugout.
Big Chill eventually returned to the game but not after the referees slapped two technical fouls on the Superchargers for delay of game.
Recently, Rain or Shine was slapped with a P2 million fine for staging a ‘partial walkout,' a term coined by the league for teams which stage a walkout but returned to finish the game, in Game Six of the PBA Philippine Cup finals against San Mig Coffee.
It is still not clear what punishment Big Chill faces for the incident, although league old-timers believe it will be significantly lower than the fine slapped on Rain or Shine.
