KHASIM Mirza scored off a steal in the dying moments to propel Big Chill to a 92-91 win over National University-Banco de Oro in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at JCSGO Gym on Monday.
Mirza intercepted an inbounds pass by Gelo Alolino under the basket and hit a shot with 1.7 seconds left as Big Chill won its conference debut, while keeping NU-BDO winless in two outings.
The shot silenced the Bulldogs, who looked in control after Jeoff Javillonar scored with just one second on the shot clock then later hit two free throws for a 91-87 lead with 11.6 seconds remaining in the game.
Big Chill’s Janus Lozada drained a triple to make it 90-91 with 3.7 left.
"I am speechless!" exclaimed Big Chill coach Robert Sison. "It was a lucky win. But I have to give it to my boys, they did not give up and they didn't lose heart."
Lozada came away with 21 points, while nine other Superchargers also managed to score.
Mirza finished with 15 points, Rodney Brondial and Dexter Maiquez each had 12 points, and Reil Cervantes had 11 markers.
