BIG CHILL beat Jumbo Plastic Linoleum, 83-69, on Thursday to take a share of second place in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at The Arena in San Juan.
Quinton Heruela and Janus Lozada led the Superchargers’ fourth quarter pullaway to lift the Superchargers to their second win, just a notch below Cagayan Valley (3-0) in the team standings.
Big Chill tied Blackwater Sports, which downed Wangs Basketball, 93-80.
Jumbo Plastic lost its first game after winning two straight to start the conference.
Leading by just two points, 69-67, in the fourth, Big Chill went on a rally, with Heruela and Lozada scoring nine points in the Superchargers’ 14-2 windup.
“I think ’yung experienced players carried us in this game,” said Big Chill coach Robert Sison, while giving credit to Heruela, a point guard from University of Cebu who finished with 10 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, and four steals in 36 minutes of play.
“He has improved a lot. He got better. I think ’yun ang nagdala sa amin,” said Sison.
Khasim Mirza led Big Chill in scoring with 17 points, while Lozada finished with 16 markers. Jeckster Apinan and Reil Cervantes had 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Big Chill started the second half with 10 straight points for a 42-35 lead and the Superchargers led by as many as 14 points but Jumbo Plastic slowly chopped the deficit.
The Giants, however, only made one field goal in the last five minutes of the game.
