MAR Villahermosa scored 19 of his 21 points in the second half and made the pivotal baskets in the final period to lift Big Chill to a 93-92 victory over Cagayan Valley on Monday in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at The Arena in San Juan.
The former San Beda guard went 5-of-7 from beyond the three-point arc and saved his best for the final quarter, scoring 10 points in that stretch to help the Superchargers open an 83-69 advantage.
Big Chill also survived a furious comeback by Cagayan Valley in the endgame. After Ping Exciminiano missed on a go-ahead lay-up, Terrence Romeo scored a deuce to give the Superchargers a 93-90 lead.
Mark Bringas missed a triple that would have sent the game into overtime for Cagayan Valley.
Big Chill improved its win-loss slate to 3-2 as it prevented Cagayan Valley (3-2) from gaining a share the lead with Café France and Blackwater Sports (4-1).
Bringas had an outstanding game in a losing effort, scoring a career-high 26 points while grabbing 13 rebounds.
Mac Montilla finished with 18 points for Big Chill while Romeo and Janus Lozada each had 14 points. Mark Canlas was the Superchargers’ fifth double-digit scorer with 13 markers.
