THE Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas has junked Big Chill’s appeal to reclaim its spot as the Philippines' representative in the Fiba-Asia 3-on-3 tournament slated May 16 to 17 in Doha, Qatar.
Executive director Renauld 'Sonny' Barrios said the SBP is sticking to its earlier decision that Blackwater Sports' 3-on-3 team will represent the country in the initial edition of the tournament.
“We submitted what names PBA give us for final list,” Barrios told Spin.ph in a text message.
Barrios said the SBP received from the PBA the list of players from Blackwater Sports and Fruitas, teams that competed in the PBA D-League 3-on-3 semifinals, and the list was in turn sent by SBP to Fiba-Asia.
Big Chill, with Terrence Romeo, Mac Montilla, Mark Canlas, and Mar Villahermosa in the lineup, earned the right to represent the Philippines when it won the PBA D-League 3-on-3 crown last April 26 over Blackwater Sports.
But Big Chill lost the spot after failing to submit pertinent documents for their accreditation before the April 15 deadline, forcing the PBA to hand the slot to Blackwater Sports.
Big Chill appealed for reconsideration and said it was willing to pay the fine for submitting a late entry.
With the appeal turned down, Blackwater's 3-on-3 team of Kevin Ferrer, Gio Ciriacruz, Robby Celiz, and Bacon Austria will now compete in the Fiba-Asia 3-on-3.
