Banchero, Waves eye share of lead as they battle Blackwater

    Nov 3, 2013
"There will be no emotional issues involved when we play Chris and Boracay. Trabaho lang,” says Blackwater coach Leo Isaac. Jerome Ascano

BORACAY Rum guns for a share of the lead in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup as it takes on Blackwater Sports on Monday at the JCSGO gym in Quezon City.

The Waves battle the debuting Blackwater Sports Elite at 2 p.m. as they aim to join early leaders Cagayan Valley (2-0) in the team standings.

Focus will be on Chris Banchero in the second game of another tripleheader as he faces the Elite team that was supposed to be his destination prior to the conference.

Banchero had initially signed up with Blackwater Sports prior to the conference but the league imposed its first-ever draft, leaving the 2013 Asean Basketball League finals Most Valuable Player to go through the process.

The Fil-Italian guard debuted in the developmental league with 15 points and four assists when the Waves beat Derulo Accelero last week.

Blackwater Sports coach Leo Isaac likes their chances in the game despite Banchero’s presence as the Elite begin their campaign for a second straight crown.

“I feel good about our chances. We have watched their game against Derulo while they have not seen us play a single game. I think it gives us some advantage,” Isaac said.

Isaac also has no ill feelings towards Banchero.

“Our goal is to win. There will be no emotional issues involved when we play Chris and Boracay. Trabaho lang,” Isaac said.

Jumbo Plastic Linoleum also shoots for its second straight win when it faces Café France at 12 p.m.

The Giants had a relatively easy time in their debut, defeating National University-Banco De Oro, 76-56, last week.

But the Bakers are coming off a 70-67 win over Cebuana Lhuillier for an even 1-1 win-loss slate.

The Bulldogs take on Big Chill in the 4 p.m. game
