MARK Belo and Chris Banchero made memorable debuts in the PBA D-League, helping Boracay Rum thump Derulo Accelero, 86-59, on Tuesday in the Aspirants Cup at the Arellano University gym.
Banchero, drafted by Boracay Rum after playing for two seasons with San Miguel in the Asean Basketball League (ABL), lived up to the hype as he finished with 15 points, six rebounds, and four assists.
Seven of those points came in the first period as the Fil-Italian guard set the tone for the Waves.
Belo, another Boracay draftee out of Far Eastern University, had 10 of his 16 points in a pivotal third-quarter run which saw the Waves outscore the winless Oilers, 31-16, to put the game away.
Boracay Rum assistant coach Bert Flores said there is still room for improvement despite the lopsided win.
“Kailangan pa rin ng depensa at ball movement. Lagi kong sinasabi, share the ball,” said Flores, who called the shots in lieu of head coach Lawrence Chongson for the game.
Ken Acibar and Roider Cabrera had 12 and 10 points respectively with Acibar grabbing a team-high nine rebounds.
The Oilers dropped to 0-2.
