JASON Ballesteros had 11 of his 23 points in the second period as Jumbo Plastic Linoleum overcame a sluggish start to beat Cebuana Lhuillier, 82-70, on Thursday and wrap up its elimination round campaign in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at the JCSGO gym.
Ballesteros led the Giants’ onslaught in the second period where they overpowered the Gems, 26-9. Jumbo Plastic trailed, 17-26, at the end of the first period. The Giants also needed a 9-0 run late in the fourth to seal the victory.
Ballesteros, who also grabbed 12 rebounds, helped the Giants finish with a 10-3 win-loss card.
The Giants could wind up in third or fourth spot and secure a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals, depending on the other teams’ finishes in the eliminations.
The Gems trailed by only a point, 67-66, with six minutes left in the game but went scoreless in a four-minute stretch with Marion Magat capping a crucial run with a tip-in for a 76-66 Giants lead with 2:13 left in the fourth.
Cebuana Lhuillier dipped to 4-5 with the defeat.
