AZIZ Mbomiko scored the go-ahead basket and Breadstory-Lyceum defeated Racal Motors, 93-90, on Monday to claim the last spot in the quarterfinals of the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at the Marikina Sports Center.
Jiovanni Jalalon had a team-high 20 points for the Pirates and Cameroonian Mbomiko came up with the huge bucket in the endgame, scoring a deuce with 20 seconds to play to break a 90-90 tie.
Racal Motors’ Jeff Viernes missed a triple in the ensuing play and Jalalon grabbed the offensive rebound to preserve the win after Jackson Corpuz split his two free throws for Breadstory.
Breadstory finished the eliminations with a 5-6 win-loss slate, tying Tanduay Light for sixth place. But the Pirates captured final ticket to the quarterfinals with their win over the Rhum Masters in the elimination round.
The Lyceum-backed Breadstory squad faces Café France in the quarterfinal round, with the third-ranked Bakers holding a twice-to-beat edge.
