AT this point in the conference, Gamboa playing coach Leo Avenido is no longer looking at the standings.
After all, the Coffee Lovers now have a slim chance of making the PBA D-League Foundation Cup playoffs as they remained mired in the cellar with a 1-5 card.
What matters now, Avenido said, is giving the ex pros in his lineup all the opportunity to strut their wares in the hopes of getting a PBA call-up.
"Ako hindi ko na tinitignan standing namin. Sinasabihan ko na lang sila na, 'Ano bang plano nyo?' Babalik ba kayo PBA or stay kayo dito?" he said.
"Ganun ko sila i-motivate," he added. "Sabi ko heto na opportunity nilang magpakita. Pag-ibayuhin nyo na, tyagain nyo na para makabalik sa pro."
Avenido hopes fellow former PBA players such as JR Cawaling, Jens Knuttel, Val Acuna, and Marcy Arellano will take that to heart and step up big when the Coffee Lovers take on Racal on Monday.
Gametime is set at 5 p.m. at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig after the 3 p.m. match between Tanduay and Zark's Burger.
Like Gamboa, Racal is on a slump with losses in its last three games after a 2-0 start.
But coach Jerry Codinera his wards will get in sync in time for the clash against another veteran-laden squad.
"Nahirapan kaming mag-adjut sa mga pagbabago," said Codinera. "We just hope na maayos din ng mga players yung chemistry namin."
