FRESH from their joust in the UAAP Season 81 Finals, Ateneo and University of the Philippines can renew their rivalry on a different stage as the championship protagonists headline the possible new entrants for the 2019 PBA D-League season.
The Blue Eagles and the Fighting Maroons have already signified their intentions to join the developmental league, all in preparation for next season.
But it's not just them, as fellow UAAP teams FEU, UST, and NU are also set to participate in what could be a 22-team field, the largest in PBA D-League history.
Aside from the UAAP teams, holdovers like 2018 Foundation Cup champion Go for Gold-CSB, founding member Centro Escolar University, as well as Che'Lu Bar and Grill, Marinerong Pilipino, Batangas-EAC, and AMA Online Education are also in the fray for next year's tournament.
Making their return to the D-League are Letran, Cignal, Perpetual, Wangs Basketball, and St. Clare, while new school-based teams like Trinity University, Diliman College, and Enderun-Phoenix, and club teams namely Cha Dao Milktea, McDavid, and Prism Construction all have made themselves available for the tourney.
The final list of teams, though, is yet to be finalized as they have to pay their entry fees by December 21 to formalize their participation.
The 2019 PBA D-League Draft is set on January 24, with the tournament set to open on February 14 at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
