JERON Teng is eager to begin the next chapter of his basketball career as he looks to help AMA Online Education win a PBA D-League crown.

Teng debuts in the Aspirants Cup on Thursday in the lone season opener as the Titans play newcomer Batangas at 3 p.m. with expectations on an all-time high for a team that hasn’t reached the semifinal round in the developmental league.

AMA practically landed the former La Salle Green Archer after they got the first pick in the PBA D-League draft last month, with team officials looking to finally break the championship drought this season.

“Marami kaming first… Ngayon, gusto ko rin na may isa pang first, ang ating first championship,” said AMA vice chairman and chief executive officer Dr. Amable C. Aguiluz IX during a recent press conference.

Teng, however, said chances of winning a title in the PBA D-League doesn’t rest on him alone as the Titans have a cast of players that are capable of stepping up this conference.

“I don’t think it’s just going to be me. It’s going to be a collective effort. I expect everybody to play well. We are a team composed of talented players,” said Teng.

Aside from Teng, AMA signed up former Blackwater cager Juami Tiongson, University of the Philippines point guard Diego Dario, and Jay-R Taganas, who holds the D-League record for most rebounds in a game. Leading its bid for the title is head coach Mark Herrera.

With AMA, Teng is raring to begin his pursuit to become a PBA cager, with players who were not part of the national team needing to go to the PBA D-League to become eligible.

“It’s another chapter. It’s the amateur stage already. It’s one step closer to the PBA,” said Teng.

The UAAP Season 79 Finals MVP, though, doesn’t expect easy sailing when he competes in the D-League, saying that he needs to work hard in order to reach the level of play in the league.

“The D-League has stronger and taller opponents. I have to work hard para I’ll be fully ready when I join the PBA draft,” said Teng.
