HAPEE got a big boost from the return of the San Beda Red Lions players in a tough 75-72 overtime win over Café France on Monday in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Art de la Cruz had 18 points and 10 rebounds, fellow Red Lion Ola Adeogun scored the basket that sent the game into overtime, and the Fresh Fighters evened their record to 3-3.
With the Fresh Fighters down 61-63, Adeogun tipped in Troy Rosario’s miss to save Hapee from another defeat.
De la Cruz broke a deadlock at 69 with a follow-up, 2:06 left in the extra period and Chris Newsome put Hapee in the lead, 73-72, with 33 seconds left. Mon Abundo missed the potential game-winner for Café France, which saw its five-game winning streak snapped.
Hapee head coach Ronnie Magsanoc is relieved to get the Lions back in the lineup.
“Simply putting it, it’s an answered prayer for the team,” said Magsanoc. “We are on the brink right now. We’re just hoping to survive. Kapag natalo pa kami, I think mahihirapan na kami.”
Café France dropped to 5-2 win-loss.
