MULTI-TITLED coach Aric del Rosario felt so bad after a blowout loss in his debut game in the PBA D-League that his Erase XFoliant players had to do something about it.
Following a 30-point defeat to three-time champion NLEX, the Erasers bounced back by beating erstwhile league leader Cagayan Valley Rising Suns, 91-78, on Tuesday in the Aspirants Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
The Erasers grabbed their first win in the conference as they atoned for a 71-101 loss to the Road Warriors, which del Rosario said embarrassed him no end.
“Sabi ko (sa kanila), first time sa buhay ko na natambakan ng kalaban,” said Del Rosario, author of University of Santo Tomas’ run of four straight titles in the 1990s. “Sa tagal ko (nagco-coach), ngayon lang ako natalo ng ganun kalaki.”
“Masama loob ko, pati boses ko nawala,” Del Rosario added.
The Rising Suns suffered their first loss after an auspicious 2-0 win-loss start to the conference.
Jett Vidal had 22 points, seven rebounds, and three assists, while Nate Matute added 20 points and seven assists for the Erasers. Jovet Mendoza had 19 points, as Marlon Gomez added 12 markers before being ejected in the third period.
The Erasers led, 78-55, after the third period.
Mark Bringas had 23 points, 18 rebounds, and five assists for the Rising Suns. Adrian Celada tallied 16 while Ping Exciminiano added 12.
Erase XFoliant had a shorthanded roster in the game after Macky Acosta and Ervic Vijandre were suspended for getting ejected in their game against NLEX.
