AMA University delivered when it mattered to frustrate MP Hotel, 85-76, and register its breakthrough win in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup on Monday at the Ynares Arena in Pasig.
The Titans turned the nip-and-tuck affair into a blowout after banking on a back-breaking run in the fourth quarter to score their first victory in three games and tie their victims in the 12-team standings.
“Malaking bagay ito para sa kumpiyansa ng mga bata,” Titans coach Mark Herrera said.
Philip Paniamogan spearheaded the onslaught as the Jose Rizal University gunner fired 10 of his 16 points in the payoff period, while Jay-R Taganas unleashed his might down low with rebounds and 17 points.
The Warriors were still ahead, 67-64, after an uncompleted three-point play by Jeferson Morillo, but the Titans scored 18 unanswered points, capped by a breakaway layup by Paniamogan, to break the game wide open.
Jumabon Bulac led the Warriors with 15 points, but went scoreless in the payoff period.
