AMA Online Education leaned on its new recruits to score its breakthrough 80-65 win at the expense of newcomer McDavid in the 2019 PBA D-League Tuesday at Paco Arena in Manila.
Franky Johnson stole the spotlight from his fancied teammates as he went for 24 points, seven rebounds, and two steals in the win.
Top rookie pick Joshua Munzon was stellar in his first game in a Titans uniform with a double-double of 12 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists, while Troy Rike got 15 and eight.
"Buti nag-jell kami ng maaga. At least, nag-sama sama sila," said coach Mark Herrera, clearly happy with how AMA has developed chemistry for its first game of the season.
Johnson orchestrated the early assault for AMA to gain an early 10-0 headway to open the game, but it wasn't until the fourth quarter when it broke the game wide open as it went on a 9-0 run to start the payoff period and grab a 71-53 lead and take home the victory for good.
Kib Montalbo also added six points and five assists, as Andre Paras sparingly saw action in the game.
The Titans now join Cignal-Ateneo and UST at the top of the Aspirants Group standings after hurdling their first assignment.
Jason Melano topped McDavid with 15 points, nine rebounds, and three assists, while James Martinez had 10 in the defeat.
