ARE Alvin Pasaol and Joshua Munzon the newest rivalry in amateur basketball?
It seems like it.
From Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 League to the 2019 PBA D-League, the two wingers somehow always find themselves on each other's paths.
That was the case again on Tuesday, when Pasaol's Petron-Letran met Munzon's AMA Online Education, with the Knights taking the 108-91 victory over the Titans.
So often are their meetings that the UE super scorer couldn't help but joke about their situation.
"Siguro tinadhana kaming dalawa," he said with a chuckle.
Pasaol and Munzon have been on each other's necks in the halfcourt game, with their respective sides 1Bataan Risers and Pasig Grindhouse Kings figuring in the championship games in all three legs of the 3x3 league.
Their battle was no different on Thursday, with the two giving each other a hard time whenever they found themselves matched up, this time in the PBA D-League.
Munzon had the better line, finishing with 38 points, five assists, five steals, and four rebounds, but Pasaol's silent eight points, six boards, six assists, two steals, and one block was enough to help his side get the W.
For Munzon, he relishes duels like these as he feels players like Pasaol only brings out the best in him.
"I think we’re just happy to be playing each other in some high-intensity matchups, but you know, I’m just hungry out here playing against anybody," said the Fil-Am swingman. "Anytime I step on the basketball court, it’s another chance for me to get better and another chance for me to prove myself so at the end of the day, I’m just trying to get better."
For his part, Pasaol also feels the same way as he shuns off talks of a potential rivalry with Munzon.
"Wala naman sa akin. Kahit saan naman, pwede kaming magkita," he said, happy that the victory also allowed Petron-Letran to barge into the win column of the Aspirants Group.
"Para sa akin, gusto lang talaga naming manalo para community ng Letran, para sa coaches at teammates para maganda yung laruin namin at yung confidence namin for next game."
