THREE new teams have expressed interest in joining the PBA Developmental League while a team on leave looks to make a comeback in the league's third season tentatively slated in late October.
Representatives from Air21 and Informatics attended a meeting with league officials on Wednesday at the PBA office in Libis, Quezon City. Excelroof did not send a representative but had earlier expressed its intention to join, according to PBA media bureau chief Willie Marcial.
DUB/Gerry’s Grill is also planning to make a return after a one-conference leave.
Officials of current clubs NLEX, the three-time defending champion, attended the meeting along with Foundation Cup runner-up Big Chill, Blackwater, Cebuana Lhuillier, Café France, Boracay Rum, Erase Plantcenta and the Cagayan Rising Suns.
“We gave all the teams until August 30 to submit a formal intent,” said PBA commissioner Chito Salud. “The projected number of teams for the third season of the league is 10 to 12 teams.”
The Air21 team will be bringing in the NCAA team Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers coached by Vergel Meneses.
Excelroof is no stranger to amateur basketball being the last Philippine Basketball League champion with a team backstopped by San Sebastian Stags that included Calvin Abueva in 2010.
