MARINERONG Pilipino scored a thrilling 74-72 win over Tanduay to forge a deciding match in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup quarterfinals on Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
Achie Inigo secured the rebound off a Renzo Subido missed free throw, leading to a split with 1.6 ticks remaining that sealed their sixth straight victory.
New acquisition Robbie Herndon from also-ran Wangs carried most of the load for the Skippers, scoring a team-high 16 points, making 3 of 4 shots from the three-point area to go with 10 rebounds and two steals.
JR Alabanza added 13 points and eight rebounds for Marinerong Pilipino.
"As what we believed, miracles do happen. The goal is just to make the semifinals," said Marinerong Pilipino coach Koy Banal.
The deciding match is on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Jerwin Gaco had 14 points, four rebounds and two assists but was a non-factor for the Rhum Masters in the endgame.
James Martinez scored 13, while Lester Alvarez chipped in 12 markers.
