COLLEGE of St. Benilde spoiled the return of CJ Perez and MJ Ayaay after blowing out Lyceum, 92-68, to stay unbeaten in the Filoil Flying V Premier Cup on Friday in San Juan.
Clement Leutcheu and Yankie Haruna started a second-quarter blitz for the Blazers as they started to pull away by halftime after posting a 41-26 lead.
The impressive boys of coach TY Tang continued to pummel the weary Pirates, who still missed the services of Mike Nzeusseu and the Marcelino twins, JC and JV, as the Blazers built a lead as big as 26 after three quarters to cruise to their second win in as many games.
"It isn't about who we play but how we play and how we can become consistent," said Benilde head coach TY Tang.
Leutcheu finished with 19 points and 15 boards as he lorded over the smaller Pirates in the paint. Haruna added 14, Carlo Young and Unique Naboa chipped in 11 apiece while Justin Gutang added 10.
Ayaay led the Pirates with 14 points while Ralph Tansinco added 12. Perez struggled in his return as he was held to just eight points on 2-13 shooting.
Meanwhile, RK Ilagan went perfect from beyond the arc as San Sebastian kept University of Santo Tomas winless following a 79-71. Ilagan scored 17 points including some timely threes in the end as the Stags held off the Tigers, sending the rejigged UST squad under champion coach Aldin Ayo to 0-2.
The Stags improved to 2-1.
Ilagan nailed all four of his three-pointers and added three assists to outgun the impressive Tiger backcourt of Marvin Lee and Renzo Subido.
Allyn Bulanadi led the Stags with 23 points while JM Calma was a monster underneath with 10 points, 15 boards and five blocked shots. Lee led the Tigers with 23 points as Subido chipped in 16. However, the two combined to shoot 26 attempts from downtown, making just nine.
