COLLEGE of Saint Benilde defeated San Sebastian College, 82-72, on Wednesday for its first win in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at the San Juan Arena.
The Blazers (1-2) notched their first win in Group C after losing to University of the Philippines, 76-69, on Monday.
CSB coach Gabby Velasco said the Blazers lost “terribly” to the Maroons earlier this week after committing 24 turnovers, and vowed to prevent that from happening against the Stags, who made it to last year's NCAA semifinals.
“We tried to improve whatever we did in our previous games. The last time, we had a lot of turnovers and we didn’t shoot the ball well. We tried to shoot better this time that is why we lost terribly to UP,” said Velasco, whose team only had 13 turnovers.
Robert Bartolo had 23 points and six rebounds, while Jonathan Grey added 15 points for the Blazers. Luis Sinco and Romeo Nayve had 12 ad 10 points apiece.
Jovit Dela Cruz had 20 points while Bradwyn Guinto hauled 13 rebounds for the Stags, who were without top point guard Jamil Ortouste.
