ZAMBOANGA Valientes will unveil talented import Demarcus Cousins as they open their campaign in the final leg of The Asian Tournament Monday against the Macau Black Bears.
A full-house crowd is expected at the Zamboang City Coliseum as the 6-foot-10 NBA superstar tries to lead the Valientes to a championship just before the season comes to an end.
Cousins, a four-time All-Star, arrived in the country last Friday and has been getting rock star treatment since coming over in Zamboanga on Sunday morning.
The Valientes have assembled a strong cast surrounding the 33-year-old product of Kentucky by getting the services of former PBA player Mac Belo and former Gilas player Geo Chiu.
The team still has regular players Mike Tolomia, Franky Johnson, Rudy Lingganay, AJ Benzon, former UAAP MVP Malik Diouf, and import Ricky Bryce.
“Basketball fans in Zamboanga is very excited to watch the games as this is the first time Zamboanga City will host an international basketball tournament. The Valientes is also the first ever city ballclub to have a former NBA All-Star,” said Zamboanga Valientes owner Junnie Navarro.
After the Black Bears, the Valientes play the Aces on Tuesday and after a rest day, face the Vanta Black Dragons on the final day of group stage.
The crossover semis is set on Friday before the finals is held on Saturday.
