COLLEGE of St. Benilde fended off San Sebastian College-Recolletos, 87-79, to cop their seventh win in the FilOil Flying V Preseason Premier Cup on Friday at The Arena in San Juan.
Justin Gutang finished with 17 points, grabbed eight boards, and dished out three assists, while Unique Nabia had 12 points, five caroms, and gave up seven dimes for CSB.
Blazers coach TY Tang acknowledged Gutang's outstanding contribution to the team without forgetting everyone's effort.
"He's really a major factor for us, he can help is in a lot of ways, but as you can see, a lot of guys contribute double figures to the team," he said.
CSB banked on 36 points in the third frame after a sluggish first quarter where they trailed San Sebastian by nine.
"We are being competitive, I think our mindset have changed. We now play until the last minutes of the buzzer," Head Coach Ty Tang said.
"We need everybody to contribute on our team, we can't rely on one guy," he continued.
St. Benilde advanced to 7-1 standing, while SSCR evened their card to 4-4.
Allyn Bulanadi had 20 points and four rebounds for the Golden Stags as Michael added 14 markers and seven boards that went for naught.
