Coach Adonis Tierra makes one thing clear as he conducts tryouts for New Era Hunters

    May 27, 2018
Veteran coach Adonis Tierra is forming a new team for the New Era College Hunters.

CONTRARY to popular belief, the New Era men’s basketball team isn’t exclusively for members of the Iglesia ni Cristo.

Longtime coach Adonis Tierra said the team also has players who are Catholic, despite the school being run by the INC. Tierra also has a Muslim for a big man in Adzhar Ujan.

“Tatlo nga iyan, pero tapos na yung dalawa,” he said of his Muslim players.

“Hindi naman requirements na dapat Iglesia ni Cristo ka. Basta kung sino ang puwede,” added Tierra, a veteran coach who serves as one of Yeng Guiao’s deputies at NLEX. “Meron ngang ganun na nagtatanong agad, pero welcome naman lahat sa team.”

As the new school year is about to begin, Tierra is again trying to form a new roster for the Hunters as they gear up for the coming season of the National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA) and the National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges, and Universities (NAASCU).

Tryouts are ongoing at the school gym along Central Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City every Tuesday and Friday from 12:00 noon to 3 p.m.

The tryouts are open to all players aged 23 years-and-under, including transferees and freshmen.

Tierra said scholarships and benefits await those who will be selected for the team. Aspirants are required to bring personal IDs, and should be in their jogging or long pants upon entering the campus.

Interested players may look for coach Tierra or any of his assistants. They may also call +63 995 1396703 or (02) 981 4221.
