CHIANG Kai Shek College stamped its class by whipping its rivals in the opening of the Headstart Developmental Basketball League (HDBL) Freshgear Cup Interclub held recently at the SGS gym on Araneta Avenue, Quezon City.
With Marc Calzado and Renly Bayquin leading the team’s first quarter onslaught, the Dragons demolished Pace Academy, 88-26, in the 12-under division of the tournament presented by Freshgear with Duralite and AXA Philippines as sponsors.
Calzado knocked down 17 points to lead four other CKSC players in double figures. Bayquin and Christian Gotolong added 14 and 11 points, while Ainsley Lor and Redgimir Eusebio chipped in 10 markers.
Not to be outdone, CKSC’s 15-under squad also romped to a 72-39 drubbing of Pace Academy with Joshua Ramirez topscoring for the team with 15 points and the pair of Jaylen Ang and Gershom Martes contributing 10 each.
Equally impressive was St. Jude Catholic School which drubbed MasterBox, 69-31 to draw level with CKSC in the 15-under division of the tournament organized by Edster Sy with Willy Chan as tournament director,
“We created this tournament to make the vacation of the kids more fruitful as they prepare for their respective leagues,” said Chan.
According to Commissioner Boy de Vera, a total of six teams are seeing action in the 15-U division and four in the 12-U.
The opener was graced by several top amateur players, including Kim Lo of University of Santo Tomas, Jerrick Canada of Jumbo Plastics, and Rodney Brondial of Big Chill.
