THE Lyceum Pirates overcame a poor start to defeat University of Sto. Tomas, 93-88, on Tuesday in the FilOil Flying V Preseason Cup 2018 in San Juan.
CJ Perez showed the way for Lyceum with 16 points, eight rebounds, five assists and five steals.
The Pirates rallied in the second half, unleashing a 12-2 run in the third period to tie the game at 51.
The final frame was a seesaw battle before the Pirates took control in the last two minutes with six straight points.
Lyceum earned their third win in seven games while UST slipped to 1-6.
Rhanzell Yong had 15 points and eight boards, while Reymark Caduyac had 12 points and made two assists.
“We were more aggressive on defense. I think we forced them to a lot of turnovers sa third quarter that resulted to easy baskets,” Lyceum assistant coach Jeff Perlas said.
“The short rotation din ata ng UST towards the end, siguro dun din kami kumuha ng advantage,” he added.
Marvin Lee had 18 points and three rebounds while Renzo Subido had 16 markers for UST.
Lyceum will next face Adamson University, while UST battles Arellano University on Friday.
