UST Tiger CJ Cansino and Adamson Lady Falcon Mar Prado have been voted co-Players of the Week after big games in the UAAP.
After a slow start to the season as he continues to recover from his ACL injury last year, Cansino is picking up steam at the right time, helping boost the Tigers in their semis bid.
Prado, meanwhile, had a career-best 40 points as the Lady Falcons routed the UP Lady Maroons.
Cansino and Prado wound up getting the vote over L-Jay Gonzales of FEU, Jun Manzo of UP, and Isaac Go of Ateneo for the Chooks-to-Go Collegiate Press Corps Players of the Week citation from print and online scribes covering the league.
Prado is only the third player in the women’s tournament to receive the recognition after National U's Ria Nabalan and UP's Pat Pesquera.
"'Di siya nagbwakaw para makuha yung 40 points niya," said coach Ewon Arayi of Prado's scoring. "Dinala pa rin niya yung team."
It is Cansino’s first Player of the Week citation and third overall following two he was given during his rookie season that ended with a left knee injury.
He struggled early in Season 82, but in the Growling Tigers' back-to-back wins last week, Cansino averaged 13.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals.
It is the third time the scribes have picked co-Players of the Week following Nabalan and Ateneo's Ange Kouame in the UAAP as well as San Beda's Robert Bolick and Letran's Bong Quinto in the NCAA.
