SIX college teams led by UAAP champion Ateneo and NCAA runner-up Lyceum will see action in the inaugural Smart City Hoops Summer Classic 25-under division set to begin on April 14 at the Greenhills West Indoor Court.
Letran, University of the Philippines, Far Eastern University and College of Saint Benilde are the other four teams in the tournament that will use a single round-robin format.
FEU faces Letran in the April 14 opener at 2:30 p.m., while Lyceum battles UP at 4 p.m.
The top team at the end of the eliminations will gain an automatic berth in the finals with the No. 2 team facing the No. 5 and the No. 3 taking on the No. 4 in knockout matches. The winners will play for the right to become the second finalist.
“We decided to open the 25-under division this year because the schools have been clamoring for an invitational tournament that will be held in a high-quality facility that is well-organized and has good competition,” said City Hoops founder Homer Bautista.
“Hopefully, by next year, we can increase the number of teams as we look to give the schools and their student-athletes an experience like never before,” Bautista said.
City Hoops, sponsored by Smart, presented by Chooks To Go and supported by PLDT Home Fibr, Cignal TV, Mighty Sports Apparel, Rain or Shine and Wilson, will continue to hold 19-under, 17-under, 15-under, 13-under, 12-under and 10-under tournaments.
