Pro 3x3 league bubble yet to get IATF approval even with best practices on protocols

Waiting game continues for pro 3x3 league
Sep 24, 2020

WAITING game continues for the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 league as the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for Emerging Infectious Diseases has yet to give the much-awaited green light.

Spin.ph sources confirmed on Thursday the latest hitch that has beset the opening of the 2020 season of the professional 3x3 league.

The President's Cup was scheduled to tip off on October 2, with games being held at Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba, Laguna.

Twelve teams will compete in four legs spread across two weeks, with a cash prize of P1 million up for grabs in the Grand Finals.

Unfortunately, the IATF has set strict guidelines for the resumption of competitions, only allowing full bubble-type competitions, much like what will be done in the PBA bubble in Clark.

Organizers of Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 League are currently in the process of crafting new guidelines to present to the Joint Administrative Order on the resumption of sports and physical activities (Sports JAO) in time for the IATF's next meeting on October 1.

"We are committing to doing a full bubble with each conference taking place inside Inspire Academy for 15 days," said league owner Ronald Mascariñas.

Curiously, the Sports JAO group, led by Games and Amusements Board (GAB) chairman Baham Mitra, has been all praises to the procedures done by the 3x3 league, from its protocols to the test runs, with PCR tests and contact tracing apps already put in place for the hopeful staging of the league.

Staging of the professional 3x3 league would have seen national 3x3 team members Joshua Munzon and Alvin Pasaol go back to the grind as members of Zamboanga City Family's Brand Sardines as they brace for the Fiba 3x3 Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Graz, Austria next year in hopes of snagging one of the three tickets to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
