THE Philippines takes another step in its Olympic 3x3 dream as FIBA endorsed the country's hosting of the first-ever Chooks-to-Go 3x3 Asia-Pacific Super Quest on April 6 to 7.
Ronald Mascariñas, the founder of the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3, unveiled the development on Tuesday night at Bar One in Crowne Plaza Manila.
"Itong Super Quest is our window na binibigay ng Fiba for us to have a chance sa Olympic qualifiers," said the amiable executive, who is also the president of Bounty Agro Ventures Inc.
"We are looking for tangible ways for the country to find its way to the Olympic Qualifying Tournaments. I know it’s hard at this point but we will try everything. And we are happy to be chosen to host the first ever Super Quest."
Twelve teams from across the globe will participate in the Asia-Pacific Super Quest, with two teams allocated for the Philippines, to be represented by the top two teams in the final leg of the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 President's Cup.
World no. 1 Novi Sad, bannered by top 3x3 player Dusan Bulut, is poised to participate in the said Asia-Pacific Super Quest.
"After last year's success of the FIBA 3x3 World Cup organized by SBP, the initiative of Chooks-to-Go to set up a tournament with international teams from Asia-Pacific qualifying to the FIBA 3x3 World Tour is excellent news, underpins the effort of Chooks-to-Go in organizing dozens of local 3x3 events and will accelerate the development of 3x3 in Philippines," said Fiba 3x3 managing director Alex Sanchez through a video package.
"There is no reason why Philippines cannot have successful teams playing at World Tour level, considering the depth of talent and love for the game in the country," he added.
The top three teams in the Asia-Pacific Super Quest will automatically gain a berth in the Fiba 3x3 World Tour.
