ARELLANO University captured its third straight victory as it trounced College of St. Benilde, 63-50, on Saturday in the Filoil Flying V Pre-Season Tournament at the Arena in San Juan.
From a close 41-40, at the end of the third period, Keith Agovida, James Forrester and Prince Caperal led the Chiefs to a 7-1 run to pull away, 48-41.
"Last year, we concentrated on offense,” said Arellano coach Koy Banal. “This year we are looking to improve on our defense.”
John Pinto finished with 17 points for Arellano, which holds the top spot in the Group A with 3-0 win-loss card, while Caperal and Agovida contributed 10 markers apiece.
Mark Romero, who fired 22 points in their first game against National University, only had eight points for the Blazers.
St. Benilde's 50-point output is the lowest so far in the two weeks of the tournament.
CSB is at the bottom with 0-2 win-loss card.
