DEFENDING champion Chiang Kai Shek College opened its title-retention bid in the 12-Under division on a high note even as Philippine Elite made its presence felt in the 4th Headstart Development Basketball League-Freego Kids Cup at the SGS gym in Quezon City.
Led by Tyron Tecson, CKSC downed Headstart, 81-43, while PH Elite outplayed RTMM Engineering, 87-68, in the opening games graced by PBA Philippine Cup Finals MVP Chris Ross and Briann Heruela of San Miguel Beer.
Ian Chua took the Freego Best Player of the Game honor after scoring 19 points for PH Elite. Also delivering for PH Elite were Carlos Cantorna, Jayjay Golloso and Lebron Nieto.
Organized by Freego sports marketing consultant Edster Sy with Willy Chan as tournament director, the annual event drew five teams in the 12-U division and the same number in the 15-U.
AMA stamped its class early in the 15-U division with a 122-44 drubbing of Manila Patriotic School while CKSC outlasted Letran, 90-80.
Christian Camay shone brightest for AMA with 17 points, 10 rebounds and three steals while Randolf Cruz led all scorers with 21 points.
Joshua Tolentino sizzled for 30 points to lead CKSC to a huge win over the Squires. Backing him up were Kenji Canete (21 points) and Vincent Vinluan (10).
