    May 30, 2014

CHIANG Kai Shek College and Adamson ruled the 2014 Headstart Developmental Basketball League (HDBL) Freshgear Cup after downing separate rivals in different age-group divisions in the finals held on Thursday at the SGS Gym in Quezon City.

CKSC leaned on tournament MVP Rejoice Jimenez as he had 14 points and 12 rebounds to defeat iCure, 65-49, in the Under-12 finals.

Robbi Darang had 20 points on his way to the MVP plum as Adamson prevented a CKSC double championship with a 65-39 victory over the Blue Dragons for the Under-15 title.

The John Sia-coached Blue Dragons completed an eight-game sweep of the U12 tournament while the Baby Falcons, mentored by Tom Chua, won the U15 despite being a third seed in the tournament presented by Freshgear and backed by Duralite, AXA, and Iwata.

Jimenez, Rein Eusebio of CKSC, Akio Enlai Yu and Adrian Benedict Ang of iCure, and Airick Sy of Pace earned places in the Mythical Five of the Under-12 division.

Darang, EJ Agbong of Adamson, Gershom Montes and Joshua Ramirez of CKSC, and Matthew Ang of St. Jude won the Mythical Five award in the Under-15 class.

Former Jose Rizal University coach Reynaldo ‘Boy’ De Vera is the commissioner of the tournament with Elmer Latonio as deputy commissioner. Willy Chan is the tournament director while Edster Sy is the event organizer.
