KARL Louis Uy ran away with the MVP award in the 18-under juniors’ competitions of the Philippine Ching Yuen Athletic Association this season.
The 5-foot-9 guard, who’s deadshot with his pullup jumpers, averaged 18.1 points, 5 steals, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assist a game in leading Jubilee Christian Academy to a perfect seven-game sweep of the eight-school eliminations.
Too bad, the special moment was spoiled by the JCA Warriors’ 76-74 double overtime loss to defending champion MGC-New Life Christian Academy in Game 1 of the PCYAA title series.
Uy nailed three triples to finish with 24 points, five assists, three rebounds, and a couple of steals for Jubilee Christian Academy, which blew an eight-point lead in the fourth quarter.
But the newly-minted MVP vows to lead JCA to a bounce back win in Game 2 on Saturday to force a third game next week.
On the way to the finals, the Warriors defeated Philippine Cultural College, 69-59, to arrange the title duel against MGC.
The MVP plum is just the latest in a string of personal achievements for this promising 17-year-old cager as Uy already owns a unique PCYAA record that will also go down in the history of Philippine juniors’ basketball.
On his 12th birthday (October 27, 2019), Uy posted a quadruple-double of 28 points, 14 rebounds, 10 assists, and 10 steals as he led Jubilee to a 77-65 victory over MGC-NLCA in a 12-Under Developmental Division game
For good measure, he also powered the Warriors to its first (and only) Developmental crown in 2019 with a perfect 10-0 record.
Uy, a Grade 11 student who does not turn 18 until October, still has a year of eligibility left in the PCYAA.
This early, several college scouts are already taking note of his skills set as he is primed to take his game to the next level.
A future stint with the national team is not being discounted either.
The sky's the limit for Karl Louis Uy.
