JEFF Chan credited Gilas Pilipinas’ so-called `sixth man’ for the team’s hard-earned victory over Jordan on Friday night in the 27th Fiba-Asia Men’s Championship.
“Malaking tulong,” Chan said in acknowledging the huge Filipino crowd that filled the Mall of Asia Arena to vigorously cheer for and support the national team in its quest for a berth in the World Basketball Championship.
“Nakapag-boost sa energy. Nakatulong talaga sila lalo na kapag nag-run kami, nakakakuha kami ng momentum,” added the Rain or Shine shooting guard.
National coach Chot Reyes agreed with his premier gunner.
“I think the crowd really gave us a big lift,” said Reyes.
Chan repaid the love of the crowd by hitting a game-high 17 points, including five three-pointers that sparked Gilas’ 77-71 win over the Jordanians.
A huge 17-0 run by the nationals in the third quarter turned the game around after Jordan controlled the match in the first half.
Being a Friday night, fans came out in droves and packed the MOA Arena to watch Gilas Pilipinas in action.
After the match, the throng of fans also awaited the team bus outside the arena and heartily cheered the Philippine team.
