CENTRO Escolar University and University of Santo Tomas extended their winning streaks to three games by pulling off contrasting wins in the 3rd Pilipinas Chinese Amateur Basketball League (PCABL) Dickies Women’s Cup held recently at the CEU Lumera Tower gym in Legarda.
Mary Ann Doloque scored seven points, including a huge triple in the payoff period as CEU outlasted reigning UAAP champion La Salle, 62-59, while the Tigress scored a trouble-free 90-62 victory over Fatima University.
Held scoreless in the first quarter, Doloque made her presence felt in the third where she scored five points before joining hands with Janine Pontejos in the fourth that kept the Lady Archers at bay.
Doloque went on to finish with a game-high 16 points, but it was Pontejos’ brilliant all-around performance that spelled the difference.
Pontejos eventually emerged as the Dickies Player of the Game after posting 12 points, three assists, and three boards.
In the other game, College of St. Benilde, last year’s runner up, downed Far Eastern University, 69-63, to improve its record to 2-1 in the event also presented by Smart Telecom, Jumbo Plastic Linoleum, Power House, CW Home Depot, Dickies Underwear and Hapee Toothpaste.
Jonela Nartates starred for UST as she dominated the paint to finish with 15 points and 14 rebounds.
Junnelyn Quitomo had a game-high 24 markers but her effort went down the drain as Fatima absorbed a third straight defeat.
Ailien Bernadez knocked down three triples to highlight her 16-point performance for the Lady Blazers who controlled the match right from the opening.
