CENTRO Escolar University and University of Santo Tomas outclassed their respective rivals to stay unbeaten while La Salle finally played true to form after demolishing Fatima University in the 3rd Pilipinas Chinese Amateur Basketball League (PCABL) Dickies Women’s Cup held over the weekend at the CEU Lumera Tower gym in Legarda, Manila.
With Janine Pontejos scoring a triple in every quarter and Demi Lou Villanueva putting on a big fourth quarter show, CEU brought down to earth last year’s losing finalist College of St. Benilde, 79-57, for its second win in as many games.
Not to be outdone, the UST Tigress leaned on a decisive third quarter onslaught to beat the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws, 74-63, and keep abreast with the CEU Belles in the tournament presented by Dickies and sponsored by Smart Telecom, Jumbo Plastic Linoleum, Power House, CW Home Depot, Dickies Underwear and Hapee Toothpaste.
Built around her four three-pointers, Pontejos went on to finish with 18 markers while Villanueva scored all but two of her 11 points in the fourth quarter that kept the Lady Blazers at bay.
Three other CEU players scored in double figures that underscored the team’s firepower and depth.
Protecting a slim 36-30 lead at halftime, the Tigress went to Mariel Isanan and Jhenn Angeles to outscore the Lady Tamaraws, 24-11, in the third for a commanding 60-41advantage going into the final fourth quarter.
Isanan sizzled with 19 points while Angeles chipped in 17.
Putting behind their disappointing 71-63 defeat to UST in the opener, the Lady Archers clobbered Fatima, 107-53, through the stellar performance of Camille Claro and Cassandra Santos.
