CENTRO Escolar University assured itself of a semifinal berth even as Diliman moved to solo second in the Universities and Colleges Basketball League Season 3 on Monday at the Olivarez College in Parañaque City.
Senegal's Maodo Diouf produced an impressive all-around game as the Scorpions romped to 102-63 win over the Lyceum of the Philippines University-Batangas Pirates.
Robbi Darang made the go-ahead lay-up with 15.4 seconds remaining and Mikhael Salazar had a huge block on Paolo Castro's triple try as the Blue Dragons scored an 85-84 win over the Olivarez College Sea Lions.
Diouf had a double-double of 29 points and 14 rebounds to go with seven assists, six blocks and five assists as CEU raised its record to 7-1.
The Blue Dragons, on the other hand, improved to 6-1, a game ahead of the Sea Lions (5-2) in the race for the second twice-to-beat slot in the semifinals.
"This is the homestretch of the eliminations, and we are battling it out with Diliman, Olivarez and TIP for the top two slots. We are taking it one game at a time and we have to be consistent," said CEU coach Derrick Pumaren.
