CEBU CITY — University of the Visayas scored an 87-77 victory over University of San Jose-Recoletos at the start of the round-robin semifinals of the 15th Cesafi men’s basketball tournament on Tuesday at the Cebu Coliseum.

UV got off to a sizzling 19-4 start before USJ-R got their bearings and pulled to within two, 29-31, after a three-pointer by RJ Dinolan.

Leonard Santillan, a former Batang Gilas, answered with a 10-point spree of his own to raise the lead to 40-32.

Santillan finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Arong added 18.
