CEBU CITY – The defending titleholder University of the Visayas Green Lancers dominated the Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildcats on all fronts, winning by a whopping 60 points, 113-53, for their third victory in a row in the 17th Cesafi men’s basketball tournament on Sunday night at the New Cebu Coliseum.
UV’s reserves stole the spotlight as Jayson Balabag led five scorers in double-figures with 20 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field.
Jerome Napao added 14 points, four boards and four steals, Ted Saga double-doubled with 14 points and 11 boards, Sheldon Gahi finished with 12 and Coleen Testa drilled in 11 for a Green Lancer squad that has found its groove, winning its third straight after dropping their season-opener.
The writing was already on the wall as early as the first half, which ended with UV ahead by 34, 54-20, thanks to a 32-9 second period surge.
Mariel Munez and Steve Bucao were the few bright spots for this struggling Wildcats squad – which has now lost five straight – with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
